Improper installation of stress control mastics is one of the leading causes of medium-voltage field failures. STK provides the following step-by-step installation guide to support technical crews and field cable jointers:

• Step 1: Surface Decontamination:
Thoroughly clean the cable's primary insulation and the edge of the semi-conductive screen layer using an approved electrical solvent cleaner to remove grease, contamination, and carbon tracking residues.

• Step 2: Structural Positioning:
Begin wrapping Scotch 2220 tape at least 20 mm back onto the exposed semi-conductive screen layer.

• Step 3: Tensioned Overlapping:
Apply the tape with smooth tension until its width is reduced to approximately 3/4 of the original width. Continue wrapping across the screen cut edge onto the primary insulation using a tight 50% half-lap overlap method.

• Step 4: Void Elimination:
Smooth the completed wrap by hand using light pressure to ensure the mastic fully conforms to the structural profile without trapped air pockets or gaps.
